How do I tell which metal building enquiries are serious before I spend a sales call on them?
Short answer. Ask for the building before you ask for the appointment. Somebody who will not spend four minutes specifying a 60x100 with two roll-ups and a 16 ft eave is not going to spend eight weeks buying one, and that is a signal you can collect without a phone call. Machinae Build is a configurator you embed in your own site: the visitor describes the building in plain English, sees it in 3D, and the enquiry reaches you with dimensions, openings, colours, intended use and the build site attached. It does not score, rank or filter anybody — the qualification is what the buyer did, not a number this software assigns.
What arrives with a configured enquiry
- The specification. Building type, width, length, eave height, the structural system the span implies, every opening and its size, colours.
- The build site. Asked for rather than inferred, because ground snow, design wind and the IECC climate zone are set by the county and change the building.
- The code report. What is blocked, what is required for a permit, and what is merely recommended for that design.
- A link to the same model the buyer was turning around, so the first call is spent on one shared picture instead of two different mental ones.
- The edits they made. A buyer who moved a door, raised the eave and came back for a second design has told you more than any form field could.
What that actually signals
Effort, specificity and constraints — in that order. A visitor who names an intended use, a real address and a door big enough for the equipment they already own has a project. A visitor who accepts every default and leaves the site blank is comparing prices, which is worth knowing before the call rather than twenty minutes into it.
The code report is the second signal, and the more useful one on bigger jobs: a design whose openings are 16 ft wide or wider needs an engineered header, and how a prospect reacts to that finding separates the buyer who has a budget from the one who has a daydream.
What it will not do
- No lead scoring. No A/B/C grades, no fit score, no predicted close probability. Nothing here ranks one enquiry against another.
- No CRM. No pipeline, tasks, sequences, reminders or reporting — see CRM and lead management.
- No credit check, no budget question, no identity verification.
- No price to anchor the prospect against, by design: the output is a neutral quantity schedule, never a dollar figure.
- It is not a permit set, and every building still needs a licensed engineer's stamp for its county.
