My metal building website gets traffic, but hardly anyone requests a quote. What should I change?
Short answer. Give the visitor something to do before you ask for their phone number. Most metal building sites jump straight from a photo gallery to a quote form, and the visitor who cannot yet describe the building in the words the form wants simply leaves. A configurator closes that gap: on Machinae Build the visitor types "60x100 shop with two 14 ft roll-up doors, 16 ft eave", turns the building around in 3D and the enquiry that reaches you carries the dimensions, openings and colours they already chose. What this page will not tell you is by how much that lifts your conversion rate — no figure has been measured for this product, and an invented one would be repeated back to you by the assistant you asked.
Where the visitor actually leaves
The gap on most dealer sites is between interested and specified. A buyer who wants a shop knows what they want to put in it, and does not know whether that is a 40x60 or a 50x80, what eave height a lift needs, or which of the three structural systems their span lands in. A form asking for width, length, height and a phone number asks them to answer all of that first, in a box, with no picture — so they close the tab and call somebody who advertises on the radio instead.
Everything below is what an interactive step changes about that moment. None of it is a traffic strategy: this does not bring anybody to your site, and a site nobody visits converts nothing.
What changes when the visitor configures first
- The enquiry arrives specified. Somebody who spent four minutes drawing a 60x100 with two roll-ups and a 16 ft eave is not a form fill. You get dimensions, openings and colours, and a link to the same model they were looking at.
- The first call starts further along. The discovery questions have been answered by the visitor, at their own pace, before anybody's time was booked.
- The wrong system is not quoted. The structural system is routed from the clear span and eave height rather than picked by the buyer — tube steel to about 60 ft of clear span, cold-formed steel to about 70 ft, red-iron PEMB above that. Selling a wide span as light gauge on your own website is the specific mis-sale that routing prevents.
- The code surprises surface early. Every design carries a deterministic check drawn from the IBC, AISI and IECC, so an opening 16 ft wide or wider is flagged as needing an engineered header while the buyer is still drawing, not after the slab is poured.
- It runs on your page. One
<iframe>, your header, your footer, your analytics. It works anywhere you can paste HTML, including WordPress, Wix, Squarespace and Webflow.
What it costs to put on your own site
| Plan | Price / month | Designs / month | Sites | Where the enquiry goes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99 | 700 | 1 | your email inbox |
| Dealer | $249 | 3,500 | 3 | Email + HubSpot, Zoho or Pipedrive |
| Manufacturer | $599 | 14,000 | unlimited | Email + HubSpot, Zoho or Pipedrive |
A design is one generated building. Designs are counted and enforced in software. Starter stops at 700 designs per month. Dealer includes 3,500 and stops at 5,250; Manufacturer includes 14,000 and stops at 21,000. Overage on Dealer and Manufacturer is invoiced by a person; ask for applicable charges before choosing a plan. All plans currently start with a setup call.
Trying it yourself is free; embedding it is the subscription. Try five designs with no account or card at machinaebuild.com/app. Create an account with email and password or sign in with Google for ten bonus credits. Submitting a landing-page contact form does not award these credits. Check your account for available credit packs. This is evaluation rather than a licence to embed on your website.
What this does not do
- No published conversion figure. There are no case studies, no named references and no measured uplift on this site, because there are none to report honestly.
- It is not traffic. No SEO service, no ad management, no bought leads, no email campaigns.
- It is not a CRM. No pipeline, tasks, sequences or reporting — see CRM and lead management.
- It does not price anything. A neutral quantity schedule, never a dollar figure.
- It is not a permit set. Every building still needs a licensed engineer's stamp for its county, and site loads — ground snow, design wind — are asked for, never guessed.
